Sadly, the reason is that many of these programs offer only a band-aid solution to a deep wound problem. The first task of any of the many drug rehab programs is to offer detoxification. That in itself takes several days. Once that is done, most traditional programs offer some counseling, both individual and as a group. Once the basics are covered, there may be some therapy on how to avoid addiction in the future. About a month after it begins, the addict is turned loose to fend for himself.
